SWIM LESSONS

Group Swim Lessons

The West Chicago Park District offers a great environment for children to learn how to swim, stay safe in the water, and have fun! Group Swim Lessons are designed to provide instruction in a small group setting where children can learn or practice their skills while meeting new friends.  Outdoor classes are held at Turtle Splash Water Park (129 W National St, West Chicago, IL 60185).

Outdoor Summer 2024 Swim Lessons

Swimmer's ability:

  • Non-swimmer

  • Requires parent assistance in water

Swimmer will work on:

  • Basic water safety skills

Minnow

(9mo-2 yrs with Parent)

Jellyfish (Tot)

(3-5 yrs)

Swimmers ability:

  • Non-swimmer

  • Little or no experience in water

  • Somewhat comfortable in water without parent

Swimmer will work on:

  • Entering and exiting water safely

  • Front and back float

  • Gain confidence in water without parent

  • Kicking, bubble blowing, and submersion

Guppy (Level 1)

(4-7 yrs)

Swimmer's ability:

  • Non-swimmer

  • Can Submerge Face in Water

  • Comfortable in water without parent

Swimmer will work on:

  • Unsupported Float on Stomach & Back

  • Full Submersion in Water

  • Kicking with Forward Motion

  • Beginner Arm Movements

Seahorse (Level 2)

(5-12 yrs)

Swimmer's ability:

  • Front Glide with Kicking - 10 Yards

  • Front & Back Float - 15 Seconds

  • Jump in 4ft and Swim to Wall

Swimmer will work on:

  • Front Crawl - 15 Yards

  • Backstroke - 15 Yards

  • Treading Water

  • Assisted Kick - 25 Yards

Eel (Level 3)

(6-12 yrs)

Swimmer's ability:

  • Jump in Deep End and Swim to Wall

  • Front Crawl - 15 Yards

  • Backstroke - 15 Yards

Swimmer will work on:

  • Front Crawl with Breathing - 25 Yards

  • Backstroke - 25 Yards

  • Introduction to Breaststroke

  • Elementary Backstroke - 25 Yards

Private or Personalized Lesson
(3-12yrs)

One-on-One Instruction Catered to Participant Needs

Outdoor Private Lessons

Our private and semi-private swim lessons are designed to provide instruction in a small group (or one-on-one) setting where children can learn or practice their skills while meeting new friends. A staff member will contact you to schedule a time for the lesson.
